Verizon suffers Ransomware Attack

A database was stolen from Verizon was stolen by an attacker, that includes full name, email address, corporate ID numbers and contact numbers of Verizon employees. However, it is unsure that all the data mentioned above is up to date or accurate. It was confirmed by Motherboard, that at least some of the information is in fact correct, by calling the numbers in the database. Few have in fact confirmed their details and said they they work for Verizon. The hacker also contacted Motherboard last week to share the details. The anonymous threat actor said they obtained the data by convincing one of Verizon’s own employees to give remote access to their corporate computer.

“These employees are idiots and will allow you to connect to their PC under the guise that you are from internal support,” they told Motherboard in an online chat. The threat actor reached out by stating in an email; “Please feel free to respond with an offer not to leak you’re [sic] entire employee database.” And had requested a ransom of $250,000 as well. The company believes the individual does not have any sensitive information as the database does not include details such as social security numbers, passwords, financial details etc. However, it could always be dangerous for the employees as the information acquired can be used to impersonate or attack any worker at Verizon.
